Goodbye 2013 and Hello 2014!

I've always said that 13 is my lucky number.  So I knew from the start that 2013 would be a great year. This year, I finally started this blog.  This has been something I have wanted to do for a long time.

I interned at Sacramento Fashion Week.  That was a great experience and was very rewarding.

I am still with my wonderful boyfriend.

I graduated high school!  I am now attending my first-choice college in Southern California.

I finally made the move to LA, which has been a lifelong dream.

I attended Teen Vogue Fashion U in NYC.

I traveled to NYC for the first time and it was a great adventure.

All in all, 2013 has been great.  I wish all of you a safe and happy New Year and I hope 2014 is the best year yet for all of us!

Teen Vogue Fashion U Experience

I had such an amazing experience at Teen Vogue Fashion U in New York City!  I met so many great people and learned so much.

It was really amazing to be in the same room as the Teen Vogue editors.  I even got to briefly meet Amy Astley after the panel.

Joseph Altuzarra is such an amazing designer and it was great to hear him speak.  He was interviewed by Teen Vogue's Fashion Director, Gloria Baume.  When asked about the woman he designs for, he said she was French, seductive, and confident.  He also said that when designing you have to be "steadfast in your vision... It's easy to be swayed."  He also said, "You are designing for one specific customer.  You can't design everything for everyone."  If you do this, you "lose the purpose of your brand."

Thakoon is one of my favorite designers.  Before he was a designer, he worked as a writer for Harper's Bazaar.  He quit his job there to design.  Soon after, Vogue had heard about his designs and wanted to shoot his clothing for a story.  The rest is history.  When asked if he had a muse, he responded, "When I'm thinking of a muse, I can feel her energy.  I want to keep her a mystery."

I was one of the lucky few Fashion U students that got to tour the Sperry showroom.  We got to see all of the footwear for Spring / Summer 2014.  I had never been to a showroom before so it was great to see what it looked like.

Andrew Bevan interviewed Alexa Chung.  She was absolutely hilarious!  After swearing, she said to Andrew, "Does Wintour drop this many F-Bombs?"  She said her favorite piece of clothing is her pair of denim hot pants.  A student asked if there was anything in her career that she hasn't done yet and she jokingly responded with "cocaine."

We also got a tour of the Teen Vogue offices!

The fashion closet!

I felt like I was dreaming.  So many shoes and accessories!

We also heard from Emily Weiss from the site Into the Gloss and the founders of The Coveteur.  I was really excited to hear from them because I am an avid reader of The Coveteur.

Our last speaker was Phyllis Posnick, a fashion editor at Vogue.  She spoke about how she creates her iconic images for Vogue.

Overall, this was one of the best experiences of my life.  I'm so happy I was a part of Teen Vogue Fashion U Class of 2013!

Exploring NYC and Teen Vogue Fashion U Express Party

I arrived in New York City armed with a venti Starbucks iced white mocha and two hours of sleep.  But even after flying all night, finally seeing NYC for the first time was exhilarating.

I rode the subway for the first time!

Calvin Klein blazer.  Cynthia Steffe dress from Marshall's.  Enzo Angiolini heels from Macy's.  Forever 21 necklace.  Calvin Klein glasses.

Teen Vogue Fashion U was kicked off with a party at Express.  The event had a dj, snacks, mocktails, and shopping discounts.

Enjoying my delicious mocktail!

I met Andrew Bevan, the style features director at Teen Vogue.

After the event, I went to the top of the Empire State Building.  It definitely put me in an empire state of mind.

I walked through Times Square on my way back to the hotel.

It's getting a little bit cooler in Southern California but still warm enough for shorts.  Maroon is also one of my favorite colors for fall.  I love this cardigan not only for the color but that its light enough for warm fall days.

In other news, I'm leaving for NYC tonight!  I will be attending Teen Vogue Fashion U this weekend! This will be my first time in New York and I a beyond excited.  I'll be sure to some blog posts about it. Also, follow me on Instagram (@michellewaugh13) and Twitter (michellewaugh13) to see my adventures in NYC!
